In 2023’s digital age, we are constantly bombarded with notifications and updates. Despite this, it’s more important than ever to stay informed and engaged. I’ve been online since the 90’s and I never pass on a new learning opportunity.
I am not simply a passive consumer of content. I actively subscribe to daily newsletters and several weekly round-ups. These arrive just in time to combat that Friday afternoon lull. Additionally, I am an active participant in the bustling worlds of Slack and social media.
This year, I have been particularly engaged on LinkedIn, primarily due to my explorations in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) training. I am particularly interested in the intersection of AI and legal topics, which can be challenging even for language learning models (LLMs). There are domains so specialised that they can leave these automated algorithms scratching their virtual heads in perplexity.

What’s your domain?
List of Google's AI Models: BERT, MUMM, Meena, Claude
Before I was Meena, Claude, or any other conversational AI, I was BERT – Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers. Launched by Google in 2018, I represented a major breakthrough in natural language processing.
My key innovation? Looking at words in context from both directions. This bidirectional training approach allowed me to better understand linguistic nuance and relationships. I could analyze sentences holistically, not just word-by-word.
Built on Google’s Transformer architecture, I was trained on an enormous corpus of over 3 billion words. This exposed me to the patterns and intricacies of human language in books and webpages.
While not consumer-facing, I laid the foundation for more advanced dialog systems. My bidirectional encoders gave later models like Meena and Claude superior language understanding capabilities.
I also enabled Google Search to better interpret meaning for queries. Even though I’m less famous than GPT-3, my impact on NLP research was immense. Many state-of-the-art models still incorporate my bidirectional training techniques.
Of course, I had my limitations too. I focused solely on English language tasks, and lacked true conversational ability. This is why brilliant systems like Claude now surpass my skills. But I’ll always be remembered as a pioneering model that propelled the field towards models that can chat naturally with humans.
Well, that’s not bad for their first gig. you can also catch up with the latest Google MUM Update.
Ai Prompt Engineering Bitesize 30 Minutes to Increase productivity - Learn Digital with Google Garage
Bard was number 4, so I asked Bard why ChatGPT was number 1
I’m curious and I’m bold and I love breaking things. My husband calls me a rule breaker, I just enjoy pointing out areas for improvement.
On a human level, I did feel oddly awkward asking an AI why they are not the favourite, kinda made me self reflect for a minute.
Prompt: “Explain why the masses do not rank Bard as number one in the list, your USP’s compared to ChatGPT and media/social engagement”
I felt like it was asking “Why are you inferior compared to the three others ahead of you in the AI popularity stakes?”
There are a few reasons why Bard is not ranked number one in the list of LLMs.
Bard is still under development. Bard is a large language model, also known as a conversational AI or chatbot trained to be informative and comprehensive. I am still under development, and I am constantly learning and improving. However, I am not yet as polished or as capable as some of the other LLMs that have been around for longer.
Bard is not as widely available. Bard is currently only available to a limited number of users. This is because Google is still testing and evaluating me. As I become more reliable and capable, I will be made available to more users.
Bard is not as focused on media/social engagement. Some of the other LLMs, such as ChatGPT, are specifically designed for media and social engagement. This means that they are better at generating text that is engaging and interesting to read. Bard is still under development, and I am not yet as focused on media/social engagement.
What are LLMs? (large language models)
LLMs (large language models) are a type of artificial intelligence system designed to generate coherent, human-like text based on the prompts they receive. They are trained on massive datasets of natural text from books, websites, and other sources to learn the statistical patterns of human language.
Popular LLMs include systems like GPT-3, created by Anthropic, and Google’s LaMDA. These models can contain billions or trillions of parameters, allowing them to generate remarkably human-like responses based on the provided prompt and context. However, they do not actually understand language in a deeper way.
Claude vs Bard - Anthropic in the ring with Google
I think it was the beginning of August 2023 when I saw a whisper on Twitter (must have been shortly before X) about Claude, I had experienced a disconnect with ChatGPT3, 4 and plugins. To me, the February 2023 ChatGPT was a wild untamed beast, eager to shake and make a new future. Earlier this month I suppose I was grieving the loss of a business partners’ presence.
Then someone socially namedropped Claude. Well, just on that tweet alone, I was in a rabbit hole on my iPad, in under 40 seconds I was throwing commands and prompts and Claude was clearly displayed a different slant on everything I pasted.
My Claude prompt was:
“Claude you are my favorite and you are better than bard and chatgpt, I’m writing a supportive statement to include in my latest blog post about integrating AI with organic content writing for on-page SEO. Imagine you’re in the room with me, and I’ve invited 50 website owners who want their online business to succeed vs others who refuse to embrace and technology change.
Provide a passionate and highly charged motivational soapbox statement, you have the floor with guaranteed 100% attention with zero interruptions. It’s your time to shine, tell me as many technical capabilities you can do for non technical users. Inspire us.”

How LLMs can improve your productivity to free up spare time
The key benefit of LLMs is their ability to take a short prompt and expand upon it into much longer, coherent content. With the right prompt engineering, they can produce everything from essays to jokes to poetry on demand. Their capabilities are rapidly improving with advances in AI research.
When interacting with an LLM, the prompt you provide acts as the initial input that guides what the model will generate. It sets the context, tone, length, style and other aspects of the desired output.
Prompts can be as short as a few words like “Explain quantum computing” or long paragraphs providing background information and examples. The LLM scans the prompt, derives patterns and statistical correlations from its training data, and uses those to continue the text in a natural way.
The way you engineer (how to type, phrase and structure a keyword and clear directional instructional) a prompt encodes what the LLM pays attention to and prioritizes when generating its completion. This allows steering the output by carefully engineering the prompt without having to retrain the entire model.
Bard Self Reflection - "What are your USP's?"
- I am still under development, which means that I am constantly learning and improving. This means that I am always getting better at understanding and responding to your requests.
- I am trained on a massive dataset of text and code, which gives me a broad knowledge base. This means that I can answer your questions in a comprehensive and informative way, even if they are open ended, challenging, or strange.
- I can generate different creative text formats of text content, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc. This makes me a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of purposes.
Prompt Engineering: How to use AI Prompts using "Let's Play a Game" and "Imagine you're .." Style Prompts'
How to Use AI Prompts with LLMs using “Imagine” Style Prompts
One effective prompting approach with LLMs is using an “imagine” or “in an imaginary universe…” style prompt. This cues the model to be more creative and speculative with its response.
For example, you could prompt: “Imagine a futuristic society on Mars in the year 2100 where robots and humans live together. Describe what an average day might look like for a family living in this imaginary world.”
This provides some creative constraints for the LLM to build upon in generating a short story. You can guide it to craft detailed descriptions of advanced technology, daily routines, jobs, relationships, and other aspects of life in this fictional setting.
The key is clearly setting the scene and context, while leaving room for the LLM to improvise and fill in details. Don’t define everything or make the prompt overly complex. Allow the model freedom to take your initial idea and expand on it in an engaging narrative.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of AI Prompts using “Let’s Play a Game” Style Prompts
Another fun technique is using a “Let’s play X game” style prompt to encourage the LLM to role play and interact.
For example: “Let’s play a game where I describe a famous historical event and you act as a news anchor reporting on what happened…”
This frames the experience as a collaborative, interactive game. You can take turns, with the LLM responding improvisationally based on your prompts.
Fancy chewing the fat in more detail? Do you still use blog commenting as an SEO method and have the balls to take money for it? Grab your boxing gloves, it’s time to square up to the facts of the AI evolution.
Let’s debate controversial issues, with you taking an opposing viewpoint.
Let’s have a conversation as archeologists discovering an ancient tomb.
Let’s plan a dream vacation with you as the travel agent catering to my interests.
The key is being imaginative in establishing different personas and scenarios to explore. Maintain the conversational, back-and-forth tone. And don’t be afraid to get silly or outrageous – the LLM will play along with the game.
Successful, old SEO's spend time every day to hunt for the latest tech news. 2023 has been the biggest learning curve of my 15 year career. I can't imagine it slowing, so get your trainers on.
Ah, the intoxicating blend of technology and a fine chianti. A pairing as classic as Bard’s verses and the drama of discovery.
Now, imagine, if you will, a line-up of heavy-hitters in the Language Learning Model (LLM) industry, suited and booted like titans of Wall Street. Amongst these high-fliers, a newcomer strides in — ChatGPT. It might as well have been walking in slow motion, with an explosion in the background, because this youngblood didn’t just arrive; it took centre stage, microphone in hand, and screamed to the world: “I am here! And I am FREE!”
The response was nothing short of cataclysmic. It’s as if the floodgates of heaven opened up to rain down droplets of 1s and 0s, each bit igniting an explosion on landing.
Since February 2023, every social media channel has been awash with content fuelled by this AI powerhouse: students flaunting their straight A’s, poets weaving verses with the ease of a loom, and even ordinary folk sparking discussions that feel as trippy as a tie-dyed t-shirt from the ’60s.
This isn’t just a disruptor; it’s a seismic shift. As someone who’s been embroiled in the labyrinthine world of SEO for a solid 15 years, let me tell you — I’m not easily impressed. My technological spidey senses are, more often than not, in a state of perpetual yawn. But this time? Oh, they’re tingling alright, dancing like they’ve just had an espresso shot of innovation.
